domestic partner workshop this Saturday (article in Yakima Herald-Republic, Rev. Jane quoted)

July 25, 2007

The Yakima Herald-Republic published this small article Tuesday, July 24, 2007, including a quote from Rev. Jane.  (See also an article entitled Couples register as domestic partners, also from the YHR on Tuesday.)

Local domestic partner workshop is Saturday
A workshop on Washington state’s new domestic partnership law will take place in Yakima on Saturday afternoon.

People are invited to learn how to access benefits, determine whether they should take advantage of the law and get involved in the quest for full equality.

The informational meeting, which includes time for questions and answers, is free and open to the public. A barbecue will follow.

“I would encourage couples to look into whether or not the law benefits them specifically before they register,” says the Rev. Jane Newall, pastor of the Rainbow Cathedral Metropolitan Community Church in Yakima. “There are some legal instances where this law would not be helpful for people.”

The new domestic partnership law took effect Monday.

The Yakima forum, sponsored by the Yakima County Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, is at 3 p.m. at the home of Bob Plumb and Fred Fontanilla, 5010 Terrace Heights Drive.

prayer concerns and celebrations (July 22)

July 25, 2007

Please pray this week for the following concerns and celebrations brought before God during worship last Sunday, July 22nd:

CONCERNS: Prayers of safe travel for Sue, for Eileen, for the seven of us heading over to the Snake River this weekend; prayers of healing for Cliff, Ken, Steve’s sister Julie, and a neighbor in a coma after an accident; and prayers of support for Kyle’s family dealing with his loss.

CELEBRATIONS: Thanksgiving for David’s having not suffered from post polio syndrome (as his doctors had predicted)! Thanksgiving for the beautiful flowers around town; and thanksgiving that a dancer from our community has gotten a job with the Austin Ballet.

God, who cares for us, the wonder of whose presence fills us with awe… Let kindness, justice and love shine in our world.  Let your secrets be known here as they are in heaven.  Give us the food and the hope we need for today.  Forgive us our wrongdoing as we forgive the wrongs done to us.  Protect us from pride and from despair and from the fear and hate which can swallow us up.  In you is truth, meaning, glory and power, while worlds come and go. Amen.
